Shoulder Pain
Therapeutic Methods

For shoulder pain due to sports injury, you should always get x-rays and possibly an MRI to determine what structural damage has been done. Ligaments or tendons that have been torn may require surgery. Stretched ligaments and tendons become inflammed and do very well when treated with acupuncture.

Some shoulder pain is due to arthritis. Arthritis can occur for different reasons. Malnutrition and food sensitivities, believe it or not, can affect the shoulder. Energetic channels extending from the intestines reach into the shoulders.

Osteoarthritis, occurs from overuse of a joint. The smooth cartilage and bone beneath begin to break down, being replaced with projections or spurs. The cartilage erodes gradually, finally allowing bone to rub painfully on bone. When the cartilage first starts wearing down, you may have no symptoms simply because the nerve endings in the joints haven't been affected. The pain will gradually appear and grow progressively worse.

Acupuncture and herbs help the pain and swelling in the early stages of the arthritis. It works best at preventing the progression of the disease. Acupuncture allows the body to create more natural pain-killing chemicals and increases blood circulation to reduce the swelling.
